Walls and Bridges

I didn’t get to write anything yesterday not because I didn’t have anything to write but it was a day to self reflect for the new week so happy new week.

I remember a wall frame in my house when I was growing up it says “Good neighbours build bridges not fences” I didn’t get then, I felt the frame was speaking about next door neighbours and why would never one want to build a bridge cos I felt all bridges were like the 3rd mainland bridge.. boy was I young and wrong…hahahahahha

Growing up I now know the importance of that phrase and tying it to what apostle Paul said “try and Iive peaceable with all men” . We all have our ego, pride and self righteous indignation that makes us mount walls in our relationship with people at work, church, school, home and everywhere.

Last week my line manager pushed back on a decision that would benefit the brand, this made the head of marketing for that region close up and take a drastic decision just because my line Manager built a wall of resistance instead of a bridge of compromise for the good of the brand…

Look at it this way, once a wall is built, things will be difficult if your neighbour owns the water pipe that means your plants will die or your side houses the pumping machine and your neighbour needs water to be pumped??? This is just physical what about mental walls???

Mental walls are worse as they are not seen but are there “I just do not like this person” when that happens, you block out anything good that can come from that person, you question the motives of that person and group it all as bad.. it happened to me recently and I felt this person was bribing me and I wasn’t having it but it took so much talking to  me by my life coach ( I like to call him that) on looking at it differently, now looking back I would have missed out on a great learning opportunity because of a mental wall.

Last week was like a soap opera but I learnt something that bridges are better, and it can be hard to build bridges if we have some sort of bias for the other person so my prayer today is for God to help me look beyond my bias to build bridges not fences..

Have a beautiful week building….

Yours sincerely
